Reflection- Self-Examine Goals

My original 30-day goals that I wanted to achieve in GLPS were to go through GLPS getting green cards, getting awards at GLPS, and to study hard for debate and writing class in GLPS. However, what I really achieved in here is learning that there is a place in Korea that is not yet polluted. I also learned many things such as how to blog write, do archery, yoga, and I was also able to improve my skills in golf, debate and presentation. My original goals were focused on getting awards. However, by going through this camp, I learned that the experiences are more important than awards. One of my original goal was achieved which was studying hard for debate and writing class. I got a lot of green cards in debate class and I tried my best to post my blog assignments on time. I did get a lot of green cards as well but I got some EOPs which caused my first and second goal to fail. However I think the third goal that I achieved is more valuable than any other goals and the fact that I had many experiences such as learning archery, blog writing, and yoga; I think I was able to achieve more things than I planned.

Photo Essay - My time at GLPS August 2013

When my mom first told me that I'll spend my summer in GLPS, I thought it would last forever. My mom tried to persuade me that KMLA which GLPS takes place is a wonderful place and you will get healthy. I didn't get healthy; but I did experience many new things which I wouldn't have if I was home, just going to academies.
Meeting a sparrow in GLPS
When I was young, there were sparrows everywhere, flying around and singing. However, there are no sparrows in cities or where I live. When I came here, the first thing I noticed is that sparrows were singing for me. Usually sparrows are scared of people but it actually landed and acted very calm on one of my classmate's bag. I held the bird very gently and everyone took a picture of it. It was very cool to see a wild bird up close, in my hands.

Pouring at KMLA
It was also my first time to see such a rain. It was kind of short but the sound of the rain hitting the ground and leaves were hurting my ears. Thunders and lightnings were striking everywhere. It seemed as Zeus, the god of lightning was mad.
Getting a splinter in GLPS
I've gotten splinters before but the fact that I was not getting healthy here surprised me. But I'm sure after the splinter pops it will help me feel less painful when I walk.
Doing yoga at GLPS
I was surprised that this camp even makes you do yoga. It was very painful to do the postures that the teacher was doing however; the meditation I learned in yoga was very interesting.
Finding a four-leaved clover in GLPS
I'm very bad at finding four-leaved clover however; it was very easy to find one in GLPS. I thought finding this will bring me fortune, but it never did.

Seeing a mugunghwa in GLPS
I've seen many mugunghwas back in my home, but I've never seen such a big bloom. I guess it's because of the environment that these mugungwhas are living in.

Preparing for my history presentation
History is fun but the presentations are very tiring. This presentation that I'm preparing will be the last, so I'll put my best effort in it.

This camp gave me new experience and wide open nature but like all things have pros and cons, this camp took my time to play video games and freedom. Even with the horrible cons, I think this camp is very interesting and I hope other people have the same impression on this camp.

Creative Writing - Visit of the Hospital

"Many have been disappearing near Judy's mental hospital." the reporter said.
"Ben, never ever go near that madhouse, okay?"
"But mom...."
"You heard the news, so don't ever go near there."
"Okay..."
I should have listened to my mom; everything would not have happened if I did.

It was very unusual to have a cloudy day in Danielville and it was also the day that I've promised my friends to go on the adventure to the m.h. (the mental hospital a.k.a. the madhouse.) The expedition had five members Daniel the nerd, Stella the beautiful, Will the handsome, Sarah the quiet, and Ben which is me. We met each other when at the beginning of the year and we consistently met at the m.h. However, exploring the inner side of the building was a whole new dimension and we even decided to go in the m.h. at midnight. I really didn't like the "going to the m.h. at night" part; however the rest of the expedition seemed to like it so we agreed with the plan. The day of the adventure came I was heading to the m.h. Just then, millions of thoughts popped into my head Mom warning me never to approach the m.h., grandpa talking about the curse of the m.h. which is why so many people are disappearing, and etc. I was afraid, scared, and my head went blank. But I didn't want to let my friends down so I kept my way going. When I reached the m.h., everyone was here. Then the thoughts popped into my head again.
"Guys...I don't think we shouldn't go on this adventure..." I said.
"Don't be such a scardey cat, there's nothing to be afraid of." Will stated.
"According to my research, there's no such thing as a ghost or those things that people are scared of." Daniel explained.
"I think Will and Daniel are right." Stella said.
"I think so too..." Sarah added quietly.
So...our expedition set our way to the m.h. I wondered where their great confidence comes from and I knew for sure that this will not go well.
